Flooding sweeps through the Botanic Gardens

Mar 24, 2021 | Garden Journal

Heavy rain over a number of days in late March sent floodwaters thundering through the Botanic Gardens.

For the second time in just over a year, the iconic stone bridge was almost completely submerged briefly.

Fortunately, it seems that no structural damage has occurred but the magnificent volunteers faced a mound of debris throughout the Gardens that will take weeks to clear.

This video was taken on Tuesday as the water began to subside.

It may seem a crazy idea, but this is a good opportunity for you to join our volunteer team and enjoy the camaraderie as well as the pleasure in helping to develop these Gardens even further. We work together on Thursday mornings. Join us at morning tea time to meet the team outside our work shed just beyond the toilet block.
